Accessibility at Allerford Tea Room.

Making our Tea Room welcoming for everyone

Our Commitment

Here at Allerford Tea Room, we believe everyone deserves to feel welcome, comfortable & supported. We are proud to offer a warm, inclusive space for guests of all ages and abilities, including those with mobility needs, wheelchair users, sensory sensitivities, dementia, hidden disabilities, families, carers and LGBTQIA+ guests.

Kindness, dignity and respect sit at the heart of everything we do.

Physical Access & Comfort

We aim to make our space easy and comfortable to use for everyone. This includes:

  • Clear walkways and uncluttered spaces

  • Wheelchair access via portable ramp(s) available upon request. Please speak to a member of our team if you require ramp access.

  • Good lighting to support visibility and safety

  • Clear signage for the toilet and ordering areas

  • Assistance available for seating, doors and carrying of any equipment

  • Assistance dogs are always welcome (as are pet dogs)

Dementia-Friendly Support

We aim to provide a calm, patient and reassuring environment for guests living with dementia and their carers.

Our team are happy to:

  • Speak clearly and kindly, allowing extra time where needed

  • Offer gentle reassurance and support if someone feels unsure or anxious

  • Avoid rushing or unnecessary correction

  • Treat every guest with dignity and respect

Familiar Comfort Items Welcome

If a guest finds comfort in familiar items, such as a favourite cup, please feel free to bring this with you. We are more than happy to serve drinks in personal cups where safe to do so.

Sensory-Friendly Considerations

We understand that some guests may experience sensory sensitivities.

We aim to:

  • Keep background music low and calm

  • Avoid harsh lighting and strong artificial fragrances

  • Minimise sudden loud noises where possible

  • Offer quieter seating areas where available.

Our tea room is generally a relaxed space, especially outside of peak lunch hours, which guests may find helpful. We also offer the option of two peaceful gardens when weather allows.

Easy-Read Menus Available

We offer a plain written menu without decorative fonts or floral backgrounds, for anyone who prefers simpler, clearer reading. Please just ask a member of our team.

Table Service Available on Request

If ordering at the counter feels difficult, our team are happy to take your order at the table - please just let us know.
